10/14/2013 16:15
Mrs. Bui will be doing a book study this year with Kindergarten through 5th grade students at Washington Elementary School. We will be studying The 7 Habits of Happy Kids, written by Sean Covey. This author has also written the 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, which is a book you could do at home with your teenagers. The first book in the series, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People, was written by his father, Stephen Covey.
The 7 Habits are based on powerful principles that have been enriching lives for generations-principles such as responsibility, vision, respect, teamwork, and balance. It is a proven philosophy for adults and teens that can now be applied to kids.
In The 7 Habits of Happy Kids we will focus on a new habit each month that the students and teachers will be practicing. Each classroom will have a poster set which includes the principles of each of the 7 habits.
September- Be Proactive - You're In Charge
October- Begin With An End In Mind - Have A Plan
November- Put First Things First - Work First, Then Play
December- Think Win - Win - Everyone Can Win
January- Seek First To Understand, Then Be Understood - Listen Before You Talk
February- Synergize - Together Is Better
March- Sharpen The Saw - Balance Feels Best
Feel free to ask your children what they are learning about in our guidance lessons each month. I encourage you to have a family discussion and talk about how these principles can fit into your family expectations. To learn more about fun ways to use this book, and for additional games and activities, you can go to www.seancovey.com and/or www.theleaderinme.org.
Also, there is a Guidance and Counseling Newsletter that is written every month for families to read. There is also a Spanish newsletter. There are great ideas and information in each one!
