A Note from PTA President-Elect, Chris McNabb
04/30/2013 09:52
As President-Elect, of the Washington PTA, I would like to say THANK YOU to the wonderful
leadership the PTA has had this past year. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to
Byron Jackson for his superb leadership the past two years!
He has spent countless hours volunteering his time for the betterment of our school and our
children. If you see him in the hallways please take a moment to thank him for all he has done! I
would also like to recognize and thank Mistie Voto, Sarah Cloer, Claudia George, Summer
McGuire, Tommy Bui, Kim Keener, Tammy Trumble, Dr. Parsons, all Grade Reps, and Committee
Chairs for their hard work and dedication to our school this school year. I have some really big
shoes to fill this coming year!
I would also like to thank all of you that completed the PTA Survey this year. We had almost 200
surveys returned!! Here are some of the results:
1. Type of fundraiser - 28% Cookie Dough, 25% Jog-a-Thon, 15% Flower Bulbs, 12% Community
Discount Cards. The PTA used the survey results to select Otis Spunkmeyer Cookie Dough +
Pizza Insert as next year's fundraiser. We will set our goal and if it is met we will not need a
fundraiser for the spring, if we do not meet our goal we will have a Jog-a-Thon in the spring.
2. Tuesday night was the overwhelming favorite for General PTA Meetings. 6:30 PM received the
most votes for meeting time.
3. We received an overwhelming positive response for all the PTA events.
4. 1/3 believes the price of the yearbook should be $20 or less and 2/3 thinks $25 or less would be
best. The PTA has taken steps to reduce the cost of the yearbook next year without affecting the
quality of the book itself. A big thank you to Andrea Crews for putting together the yearbook this
year...I think you will be impressed by all her hard work. Be sure to check out the yearbook table at
Back To School Night...you won't be disappointed if you stop by a BIG Special is in store for you,
but it won't last long!
5. Washington will be starting a Watch D.O.G.S. program next school year and judging by the
response a lot of Dad's are excited about the opportunity to help out in our school. Stop by the
Watch D.O.G.S. table at Back To School Night to get more information and sign up for your
volunteer time!
6. The PTA is very happy to see that 84% of you receive the PTA e-Newsletter! Summer McGuire
does an outstanding job with our newsletter.
7. We had quite a few suggestions for the use of PTA funds for next year. The most popular items
suggested in order were: Computers/iPads, Recess/Playground Equipment, Trees and upgrade to
WOODS area. A couple of unique items mentioned were, video screens for announcements as
your enter the school, a digital marquee and an outside water fountain.
The PTA appreciates all your feedback!
I look forward to being the PTA President next year, feel free to contact me with any questions/
concerns or if you would like to volunteer your time to the PTA (we always need volunteers). If you
would prefer to submit written suggestions/comments anonymously, feel free to put that note in the
PTA President box in the school's office. For those of you that I have already met, please forgive
me if I don't remember your name next year and I look forward to meeting all the rest of you.
Have a great summer!
Chris McNabb, PTA President-Elect
